Guide to Tablecloth Size

Guide to Tablecloth Size

A fitted tablecloth is a subtle expression of elegance which will enhance not only the vision of the table it covers, but also the table settings that adorn it.

Occasions for a fitted tablecloth cover many spectrums, from traditional home settings to holiday gatherings to even more professional presentations, like weddings, business presentations or exhibitions. All of these situations will benefit from the allure of a correctly fitted tablecloth. Does this Spark an idea?

The Size

    A lap drop tablecloth.

To purchase the right size tablecloth you must know the basic measurements of your table. Determine the height, length and width of the table. Include the leaves or extensions in this basic measurement. If these will be extended just for special occasions, you will need two tablecloth measurements: one with extensions, and one without.

The Overhang

Sizing a tablecloth also means sizing the overhang, or drop, as it is called. A minimum drop is 8 inches, while a lap size drop is between 10 and 12 inches. Banquet or wedding tables would have about a 15-inch drop while showcase or exhibition tablecloths almost always overhang to the floor. Depending on how high your table is, the final drop measurement will have to be calculated in.

Basic Size Computation

    A round tablecloth

Square, oval and oblong tablecloths use the same formula to determine tablecloth size. For width, add the drop times two, and for length, also add the drop times two.

Round tables are calculated a bit differently. For the drop, measure the diameter of the table, which is from end to end in the middle, and then add that to your preferred drop measurement, times two.
